NZTech Update – Supporting digital transformation

Today I completed my 169th consecutive day of running as I near the half way point of the ‘365 day challenge’, an attempt to run every single day this year. It takes a lot of commitment to get up every morning for a run, no matter the weather or where you are. Everywhere I look across the New Zealand tech ecosystem, I see this sort of commitment and it makes me proud to be a Kiwi.
This week we will be celebrating the Kea World Class New Zealanders Awards in Auckland. This year’s winners include tech innovators, Peter Beck and Mark Sagar plus NZTech’s Chair Mitchell Pham. It is great to see the tech ecosystem featuring so strongly in the success of New Zealand.
Last week, the TechLeaders Executive published a series of Digital Principles for businesses undertaking a digital transformation. This group of senior tech executives from many of New Zealand’s largest organisations are working together to identify best practice and to capture this and share it with the rest of the business community. Following the release of these Principles, they are developing ‘how-to’ guides to help firms digitally evolve and bring their employees along with them. I applaud this group of individuals who care enough to do something to help reduce the impact of automation on New Zealand’s workforce.
I would also like to congratulate the team from TechWomen who won the Engaging Youth in ICT Award last week at the annual CIO Awards. Together with volunteers from across New Zealand this team has been successfully delivering the ShadowTech day programme each year, providing over 600 year 9 and 10 girls with a chance to shadow a woman in tech for a day.
