ShadowTech Teachers 2022
ShadowTech Teachers is an innovative programme to ensure teachers have the knowledge to guide ākonga into tech careers.
The 2022 ShadowTech Teachers programme will connect up to 200 secondary school teachers and career advisors from New Zealand schools with high proportions of Pacific learners to the technology sector. New research shows that less than three percent of the New Zealand tech workforce are Pacific people, so it is vital that Pacific students are supported to gain digital skills and encouraged to pursue tech careers in New Zealand’s fastest growing and highest paying industry.
ShadowTech Teachers will connect secondary school teachers with local tech professionals in order for them to learn first-hand about careers in the tech industry.
The tech professionals will meet with the teachers online for a minimum of two virtual mentoring sessions between March and May. These sessions give teachers the chance to learn about mentor;s career pathway and ask any questions they have about careers in the tech industry.
In June, if the Covid Protection Framework permits, the teachers will visit the workplace of their mentor for a half-day visit so they can see the tech industry in action.
Registrations close 28 February.
ShadowTech Teachers is delivered by NZTech and the Ministry of Education.
