This week, it’s CERT’s annual Cyber Smart Week and we’re supporting their important messages to help us all keep secure online. Even if you think you’re tech savvy, it’s a timely reminder to review your passwords, upgrade to 2FA, check privacy settings and update your devices and apps. Remember, if you or someone you know experiences a cybersecurity incident, report it to CERT NZ, because they’re here to help protect Kiwis. Learn more.
My week starts with a session with Statistics New Zealand and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) on the design of metrics to measure the digital economy. These metrics will underpin the Digital Tech Industry Transformation Plan (ITP) and the Digital Strategy for Aotearoa.

Later today I will be attending the quarterly industry briefing with Minister Clark, including immigration, tax treatment of software development, the ITP timeline and the work of the new Digital Equity Coalition of Aotearoa (DECA).
On Tuesday, I am meeting with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and the Ministry of Environment on the Emissions Reduction Plan (ERP) concerning the role of tech. From what I can see, there is a definite shortage of tech and little mention of biotech, so I look forward to learning more. Later in the week, I have the pleasure of meeting with the Ambassador for Israel to share notes on the impacts of COVID-19 and the opportunities for our mutual tech sectors. This week also includes EdTechNZ’s Annual Meeting, a session on digital safety, plus developing submissions for the Digital Strategy, the ERP and the Reserve Bank’s Future of Money consultation.
