NZTech Update – Fresh snow, recharging and new board

It was a great feeling to head out of town last week and recharge the batteries in Queenstown. Nothing like some fresh snow and a GoPro.
While I was away, a report came out of Fletcher School at Tufts University in the US, the premier global school for the study of law and diplomacy, ranking New Zealand as a leading digital nation. Our strong digital economy was attributed to a positive combination of infrastructure, incubating startups, a cultural commitment to innovation, and government support. We need to continue to build on this success as there is still a long way to go to be a truly digital nation.
NZTech held its AGM at the end of last week and I would like to welcome the newly elected board members to the team. We also wish retiring board member Mandy Simpson all the best and thank her for her successful tenure. Read an extended welcome from our Chair, Mitchell Pham here.
Meanwhile, Techweek’18 is shaping up. We have formed a joint venture with the Trans-Tasman Business Circle to deliver a number of international delegations into Techweek in 2018. We will be working together to bring in hundreds of investors, businesses people and potential talent looking for a new home to events across New Zealand.
This week, I will be in Hamilton to catch up with Fieldays Mystery Creek and AgResearch as we work on ways to help aggregate the AgTech space and prep some cool AgTech content for Techweek’18. Then, it’s off to Wellington for the launch of the updated Business Growth Agenda by the Government. Next week, I am looking forward to joining the Canterbury Tech Board meeting and monthly event as we work to help strengthen the connections between national and regional groups.
In the meantime, I am already planning my next holiday. It takes a good break with the family to remind us why we work so hard in the first place!
