Every year our team collates data and insights about our ecosystem in preparation for our AGM later this month. Check out the latest New Zealand Tech Key Metrics in the NZTech Info Hub. This year we have included historical trends data, in some cases back to 2000 and some regional breakdowns. A few highlights include:
- 23,433 tech firms employed 118,070 people in New Zealand and created 6,880 new jobs.
- They also exported $9.8b and became the second largest export sector accounting for 10.9% of all exports, with software exports growing 24% CAGR for the past 10 years.
- The tech sector contributed $20b to GDP, making up 8% of New Zealand’s economy.
- Investors provided $726m, across 154 investments and 143 companies.
- Over $1b was invested in R&D in computer services, accounting for 33% of all business R&D.
Since NZTech has taken on the responsibility as the administrative body for The Aotearoa New Zealand Code of Practice for Online Safety and Harms (The Code) I have been reading more about online risk. With the election fast approaching, officials are preparing for ‘analogue politics in the digital age’. RNZ have also been producing an informative audio series, Undercurrent – misinformation in Aotearoa.
This week the Vietnam Digital Delegation is visiting New Zealand. NZTech Board Member Mitchell Pham is representing us at the Vietnam – New Zealand Digital Forum on Wednesday in Wellington. The Forum aims to promote ICT/digital cooperation between Vietnam and New Zealand and will be an opportunity to explore future collaboration with digital partners in Vietnam.
