NZTech Inform – Discover the latest tech

This week, I’m looking forward to checking out the latest tech at the Tomorrow Expo including mixed and virtual reality, apps, AI-powered games, metaverse experiences, demos and more. It’s not too late to join me at the Viaduct Events Centre in Auckland. It’s free entry, but you’ll need to register to attend.

There’s also a great programme of keynote talks and thought provoking discussions from AI and climate to cybersecurity and talent attraction. Please join me on Wednesday at 4.15pm. I’ll be moderating the Scaling Up: We’re Here to Help panel discussion with innovation specialist Ella Reshef, NZ Growth Capital Partners Rob Everett and NZTE’s Shannon Thomas. Come along if you’re curious how Government entities work together to support the tech sector’s startup ecosystem.

Then we can continue the conversation at our Happy Hour on Wednesday and Thursday, 5.15 – 6.15pm. There’s a complimentary first drink on arrival, then a cash bar is available.

In other news, congratulations to the inaugural winners of the New Zealand Tech Marketing Awards. The Tech Marketer of the Year is Nick Whitehead, Serko. The Young Tech Marketer of the Year is Kat Waters, ElementX and the BRB Tech Marketing Strategy of the Year was awarded to LawVu’s growth and brand marketing team led by Bindy Griffin.  

In case you’re interested, last week’s meeting with Minister Andersen went very well. Once you start chatting about tech, there is never enough time, but it was great to see the Minister’s awareness and understanding of key tech issues, including the need for readily available tech skills; why new pathways into tech careers urgently need to be deployed; why more industry input is required as we develop a workable digital identity scheme in Aotearoa; why the Government needs to increase its investment into cybersecurity; and the urgent need to take AI more seriously. I’m looking forward to continuing these discussions with the Minister and working with her to accelerate some of the responses to the many tech opportunities out there.
