Global geoscience software company Seequent, has been named Supreme Award winner for the 2021 AmCham-DHL Express Success and Innovation Awards run by the American Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand. The 22nd annual awards celebrate success and innovation in the export, import and investment sectors between New Zealand and its third-largest trading partner, the USA.
Exports of technology and services continue to grow with more than half the entries for the awards coming from tech companies. In addition, over $17 billion of new US investment in New Zealand has been announced in the last year, most of it in the tech sector.
Seequent was also named 2021 Exporter of the Year to the USA—Over NZ$10 million. Seequent is a New Zealand success story, having grown from one employee in 2004 to 173 New Zealand staff and a total of 430 globally by mid-2021. The Judges were impressed with the level of technological brilliance and dedication shown by the team of this Christchurch based tech company.
The company’s rapid growth culminated in its sale of around NZ$1.5bn to US company, Bentley Systems in 2021. This sale makes Seequent one of the latest billion dollar ‘unicorns’ to emerge from the New Zealand high tech sector.
Seequent is a world leader in developing powerful geoscience analysis, modelling, and collaborative technologies for understanding geoscience and engineering design solutions – enabling customers to make better decisions about earth, environment and energy challenges.
Meanwhile, Bentley Systems Incorporated was named 2021 Investor of The Year to or from the USA for its acquisition of Seequent.
