Kia ora,
Just a short update today, because like everyone else, we are in coronavirus chaos.
Our thoughts are with everyone who is affected by COVID-19. With the Prime Minister’s announcement over the weekend and the constantly evolving situation, the NZTech team are focused on three things today;
- We are working on how to cope with the implications on our forthcoming conferences and member events.
- We are updating our guidance for the staff and volunteers who support the Tech Alliance, to ensure they stay safe and healthy.
- We are establishing the impact on our members, so we can help in any way we can.
I have had several member organisations reach out to let me know that the economic implications of these emergency rules are already starting to have an impact. Fortunately, many tech firms can stay productive and pivot their workforces to work from home. However, this doesn’t save them from reduced customer demand. Please let us know directly how the coronavirus is impacting your business so we can help keep the Government informed.
Currently, the Government is very aware of the implications on New Zealand’s more traditional sectors such as tourism, international education and primary producers. However, we don’t want them to overlook the implications for the tech ecosystem. At the same time, this is an excellent opportunity to ensure the fastest growing export sector continues to operate and provide needed economic stimulus for the rest of the economy.
Have the best possible week.
