NZTech Inform – Developing Our Economy And Society Towards 2050

Kia ora readers,

During Singapore FinTech week, I closely observed the pace that Singapore is successfully adopting and leveraging technology to make the country better for its citizens. I am pleased that New Zealand is taking a leaf out of the Singaporean playbook and is developing industry transformation plans.

In a few weeks, NZTech and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) are hosting workshops throughout New Zealand to help develop the industry transformation plan for New Zealand’s digital technology sector. We would like to gather as much input and feedback as possible, so I hope you will take the time to join one of the sessions. Please attend our workshops and share your views; 26 November in Auckland, 28 November in Wellington, 2 December in Dunedin, 3 December in Hamilton, 4 December in Christchurch and 9 December in Tauranga.

We are also working on a digital solution to help us connect with and gather input from other regions of New Zealand as well. The great thing about the tech sector is that it really is penetrating regional New Zealand, creating jobs and economic growth. According to the recent TIN report the Otago/Southland region has seen a 16.2 percent growth in tech sector revenues and the generation of at least 120 new tech jobs in the past year. According to the NZTech Digital Nation 2018 research update there are a growing number of tech jobs across all regions of New Zealand.

This evening, I am in Hamilton visiting the Waikato tech community and CultivateIT, the latest addition to the New Zealand Tech Alliance. I will be sharing updates on the New Zealand tech scene, before Greg from TIN shares the highlights from the latest TIN Report. Later in the week, I am back in Hamilton again, this time speaking on the Think Global Act Local panel at Digital Health Week with Tech Alliance partner NZHIT.

Have a great week.

Ngā mihi
