NZTech Inform – Delivering billion dollar exports

Kia ora Readers

Last week, following the launch of the Interactive Aotearoa report there was plenty of attention that with coordinated support, the sector has the potential to deliver a billion dollars in exports by 2024!  The fact that a growing interactive media and gaming sector has additional benefits like improvements in healthcare and education was also great news. Both TVNZ’s 1 News Now  and Three’s Newshub ran prime time stories.

Currently, the Government is hard at work on the Industry Transformation Plans for several sectors.  It is great to be collaborating on the initial development stages for a digital sector plan. With weekly meetings it is progressing well, but what is even more exciting is that tech is playing a major role in all of the sector plans. Whether it is agriculture, forestry, health or creative, the role of tech in the future success of the New Zealand economy has never been more pronounced.

Today, it will be interesting to attend the National Party Economic Development Policy Launch.  I am hoping that they too have identified the critical role of tech for our future and are incorporating it into economic development policy.

Being good at tech across our economy will facilitate a prosperous society: whether it is digital tech and its role in accelerating exports and e-commerce, or biotech and its role in transitioning our deep science into real tech solutions for health and the environment, or the role of hi-tech manufacturing and robotics.

Things appear to be progressing in the right direction, but how can we speed up the progress?

Have a great week.
